Hi Rosie! I already love your soul food yams recipe so I know this one will be bomb.com and quicker in my Pressure Cooker XL. Question: Do you have any suggestions, for those of us with busy schedules, on how to prepare for holiday cooking a week or so before? I have prepared your baked mac n cheese for freezing and it was still great after reheating. Specifically, are there any dishes that can be pre-made and freeze well?
Thank you for sharing your recipes and beautiful personality!
Rosie says
I just suggest preparing over a few days time. Don’t try to do everything in one day. I highly suggest using instant pots, and slow cookers.
Myra Dakis says
I mashed it all up threw it into a pie shell and served with butter pecan ice cream OMG soooooo good

Hello Rosie,
I just bought an IP and I can’t wait to try this recipe.
I am a bit confused on the settings…do I use the slow cooker button or the pressure cooker button?
Thank you
Rosie says
Pressure cooker settings.
Maggie says
I do not have a normal setting button on my instant pot. Do I push the pressure cook button? I have made your receipe before and everyone just loved it and I would like to try the instant pot receipe to save my oven for a different dish. Thank you.
Rosie says
Hi Maggie. Yes, the pressure cooker button 🙂
Robert says
I love your yam recipe, do have one for canning yams in jars ? I have about almost 20 lbs of fresh sweet potatoes.
If so what are the steps ?
Rosie says
Hi Robert! I don’t, but that is a excellent idea for me to do in the future!
Randy says
Robert, canning requires extra care. To be safe getting your Recipe from a university’s extension, university of Georgia is a good example.
Not using a known safe recipe can be deadly or extremely sick people.

Rosie says
Try my slow cooker yams recipe. It’s here.
Larissa says
Hi Rosie, I am so happy to find a instant pot version and your recipe is very similar to the one I use which I love. after cooking for the 15 min, do you quick release your steam or slow release? Thanks!
Rosie says
I usually do a quick release.

Oh wow…..i meant to co.e back and place a post regarding my 1st attempt at making from scratch the Southern-baked candied yams. They were delicious and my family loved them too. Next, I’m going to try the slow cooker candied yams to see which i prefer most and I’m aiming for thicker syrup/juices. Seems this will become my favorite cooking blog. Thank you Rosie, for sharing your gift & recipes to the world.
PS – Please post the candied yams with pineapples recipe.

My mom and I just tried this recipe in my instant pot. They were delicious!!!! We made about half the recipe since my IP is a 3 quart. So easy to make too. Thank you for posting this recipe!!

Hey Rosie,
Thank you for this recipe! I used it this Thanksgiving and it was a huge hit! The amount of spices, butter, and sugar worked perfectly. I used orange juice instead of water to give it a little acid and citrus flavor. I used a little more brown sugar than white sugar because I like the molasses flavor. Fundamentally, this is a solid recipe. and made everyone feel warm and happy.
Thanks again,
Chase

The recipe is right on and extremely easy! I cut back on the granulated sugar (1/3 cup) and butter (6 TBSP) it was still a bit too sweet for me (but other people would disagree). Thank you so, so much!

I was skeptical at first when my sister told me about pressure cooker candied yams. Well, I went to the store the Friday before Easter to buy yams to try out the recipe. I made the recipe (my pressure cooker told me to add more water), added extra white and brown sugar and cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and deleted the cloves. To my surprise, the candied sweet potatoes came out perfect and tasty.

Getting ready to try this recipe now. No, it’s not a holiday, but my wife wants yams lol. You asked about a favorite side dish. For me, it’s John Copes corn. Awesome with butter, cream, & sugar.
I’ve made yams with pumpkin spice which is great. Never tried ginger & clove. So, I will in about an hour!
Nina Garner says
Rosie….your recipes never fail me! I love this recipe and I thickened it after. My family looooooved it so much!!! This is my new go to and I added marshmallows on top. Keep it up the awesome work! I’m on countdown to buy your cookbook
Please do more Instant Pot recipes please.

Hey Mrs Rosie Happy Holidays!! Quick question when you say to make sure the knob is in the middle do you mean that we should set the knob between venting and sealing? I would greatly appreciate your reply. Have a blessed day!
Rosie says
Make sure that it’s sealed 🙂
Donna says
Just made this recipe today. I love how succulent these candies yams are. They do melt in your mouth and it reduces the time it takes to cook them.
Michelle says
Used 1/4 cup white and 1/4 cup brown sugar – came out perfectly sweet for our family! When done we poured the yams into a baking dish, topped with marshmallows and broiled until the marshmallows were browned and bubbly. This dish was a big hit! Thank you for the post. What a great recipe and *bonus* we conserved oven space and saved on time.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful IP Candied Sweet potato recipe.
Just so easy. I did mix sugars and spices together then sprinkled over the butter and potatoes.
Jewell Reynolds says
I love this recipe. I’ve made this several times, but I cut down on the sugar a bit. But everytime PERFECTION!! I need to make for more people. Do you recommend doubling the recipe or doing two separate batches?
Rosie says
Sorry for the late reply, but you can certainly double this recipe 🙂
Kay says
The flavors are delicious, and easy to follow instructions. I suggest for those whom have questions, quick release after the 15 mins and set your pressure cooker to normal by pressing the pressure cook button a few times.
Came out perfect!

The yams were delish and it was a hit for my three picky eaters in the house! I just used less granulated sugar by 1/2 and added some apple pie seasoning (a combo of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves).
