Homemade cheesy garlic & herb cornbread that will go great with any soul food or southern meal!
How many cornbread recipes can one have? Â HUNDREDS if you ask me! With as many southern and soul food dishes, I have plenty of cornbread recipes to choose from. I have everything from buttermilk skillet cornbread, sweet cornbread, to my new favorite – cheesy garlic & herb cornbread!
My homemade cheesy garlic & herb cornbread is made with yellow cornmeal, and all purpose flour. The cornbread batter has a ton of sharp cheddar cheese, and herbs such as thyme, sage, basil, and even marjoram.
This cornbread pairs well with blackeyed peas, and southern red beans and rice, and can also be used in cornbread dressing!
Try it out for yourself, and leave me a comment down below! XOXO

Hi Rosie! This looks really great especially since I love garlic and cheese in anything. Question – could I substitute bacon drippings for the butter? This Texas girl was raised up with cornbread made with bacon? Thanks so much! Love your recipes!
Rosie says
Hi Gail! You sure can use bacon drippings! XOXO

That sure do look good. I love me some garlic. So..what yellow corn meal do you use?
Rosie says
I use whatever is on sale at the time. I’m not married to a brand right now 🙂
Mrs. Meeks says
Don’t have any rosemary will that matter
Rosie says
It will take away from the flavor, but it can be left out if needed.

I made today and it was really good! I did have to cook it 10 mins longer. Mine browned but not as pretty as yours did, any suggestions? This is definately a keeper recipe (big proud smile)
Rosie says
Not sure why it didn’t look the same. Your oven probably runs a little cooler than mine. That could be why it took longer to cook. Happy New Year!
