This cheesy bacon jalapeno popper dip is the perfect appetizer for any occasion! A creamy mix of cream cheese, jalapenos, bacon, and crispy breadcrumbs.
Hey friends! The season of football games, family gatherings, and holiday get-togethers is almost upon us, so it’s time to share another easy appetizer recipe! Previously, I’ve shared other game day-ready recipes that are a must-have in any Super Bowl spread – some favorites like Brisket Nachos, Nacho Layer Dip Cups, and Cheesy Spinach Artichoke Dip. Today, I’m sharing another must-have: Bacon Jalapeno Popper Dip!
A Classic Appetizer Turned Into a Creamy Dip
This Bacon Jalapeno Popper Dip is exactly what it sounds like – jalapeno poppers in dip form! I have a recipe for bacon jalapeno poppers, which is what inspired me to repurpose one of my favorite appetizers into a party-ready dip. For this party dip, we take an extra cheesy cream cheese mixture, combine it with smoky, crispy bacon and spicy jalapenos, and finish it off with a crunchy topping of seasoned breadcrumbs. Then we bake it, which lets everything melt together. When it comes out of the oven, it’s ready for the party!
If left unsupervised, I could eat this whole dip all by myself. But thankfully, it’s easy to double (or even triple) for your upcoming Super Bowl party, potluck, or holiday gathering – it’s a real crowd pleaser!
Ingredients for Creamy Bacon Jalapeno Popper Dip
So, since it’s called Bacon Jalapeno Popper Dip, I guess you can tell that you need bacon and jalapenos, right?! LOL! But what else does this great party dip need? As always, you can scroll on down to the recipe card to find the exact ingredient amounts. Here’s everything you need to make this creamy jalapeno dip.
- Fresh Jalapeno Peppers: if you want to tone the heat down a little, be sure to remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapenos.
- Green Onions: diced up green onions add a nice touch of onion flavor to the creamy dip.
- Cream Cheese & Sour Cream: for the best results, let these two ingredients come to room temperature before mixing so everything combines nice and smooth.
- Ranch Dressing: this is all the seasoning you need! I prefer to use actual ranch dressing, but you can swap in half a packet of ranch dressing seasoning instead.
- Shredded Cheese: I use Colby Jack cheese, but if you have another preference, use it!
- Cooked Bacon: crumble your bacon up into small pieces that will mix well into the cream cheese mixture.
- Italian Seasoned Bread Crumbs: the perfect crunchy topping!

Easy Jalapeno Popper Dip Recipe Directions
First thing: pick your dish! I made my jalapeno popper dip in a 9-inch pie dish. Whatever dish you choose just needs to be oven-safe. So, you could make this dip in a casserole dish (especially if you double the recipe), a cast-iron skillet, or even one of those disposable aluminum trays (a great option if you’re bringing the dip to a party!).
Next tip, make sure to let the cream cheese and sour cream come up to room temperature. It will be easier to mix, and you’ll have a much smoother, creamier dip. Here are your next steps:
- Dice up the jalapeno and green onions. To reduce the spice, remove the jalapeno seeds and membranes.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and ranch dressing. Mix until creamy and combined.
- Toss in the onions, jalapenos, shredded cheese, and chopped bacon. Mix until everything is well combined.
- Pour the jalapeno dip into your baking dish and smooth it out. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs in a thin, even layer on top of the dip.
- Bake in a preheated 400-degree oven for about 10 minutes, until the breadcrumb topping is nice and golden brown.
What to Serve with Jalapeno Popper Dip
I always serve my bacon jalapeno popper dip with some butter crackers, but the possibilities are endless! This dip pairs great with:
- Corn chips like Fritos
- Tortilla chips, especially the scoop-shaped ones
- Baguette slices, either fresh or toasted
- Ritz crackers, Wheat Thins, or Triscuits
- Pita chips
Bacon Jalapeno Popper Dip Recipe Tips
This spicy, cheesy dip is the perfect appetizer for the holidays, potlucks, or football pregames, and so much more! What’s even better is that it’s easy to customize to your liking. Here are some tips on how to adjust the recipe and give you a few more options.
- Instead of breadcrumbs, you can top the jalapeno dip with more cheese or bacon pieces (a good option if any of your guests are gluten-free).
- Want to keep it vegetarian? Leave out the bacon, or use bacon bits instead (these are vegan and vegetarian-friendly).
- Instead of ranch dressing, you can use ranch seasoning powder! Just add a little bit more sour cream (about 1/3rd cup) and half a packet of seasoning (taste, then add more if desired).
- If you don’t like ranch dressing, leave it out and use traditional seasonings instead, like onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. You can even add some cayenne pepper if you want some extra heat.
- Make the dip ahead of time! Follow the instructions as listed, but leave off the breadcrumbs. Cover the dish with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and toss it in the fridge until you’re ready to bake it.
- Leftover dip should be refrigerated and will last for 2-3 days. However, it should not be frozen – the creamy dip doesn’t freeze well, so it’s best enjoyed fresh.
I don’t like spicy jalapeno peppers; what other kinds of peppers can I use?
If jalapenos are too spicy for you, or you just don’t like the flavor, you can replace them with sweet peppers. Poblano peppers or Anaheim peppers are the best swaps if you want a similar flavor with less heat. Canned green chilies are another option that has milder heat. You could even use green bell peppers if you wanted to!
What other shredded cheese can you use in jalapeno popper dip?
Most varieties of shredded cheese will go well in this recipe! Some great options would be Monterey Jack cheese, sharp cheddar cheese, or Parmesan cheese. Pepper Jack cheese will lend some more spice to the dip, and mozzarella cheese would make it even richer and creamier.
Can I make jalapeno popper dip in the slow cooker?
Yes! Simply toss all of your ingredients into the Crock Pot (minus the breadcrumbs) and set it to HIGH for 1-2 hours, or LOW for 2-3 hours. When everything is melted, give it all a good stir to combine. Add some more cheese and bacon as a topping and leave it on the warming setting to keep it nice and warm while serving. The slow cooker is a great option if you’re doubling the recipe to feed a larger crowd.
