Thanksgiving is just another day to me if I don’t have my Corn Bread Dressing. Everyone has their own special recipe for dressing. I Like to keep in nice and simple. This recipe has no meat in it, but you can add if you want. Feel free to adjust this recipe to your taste buds! Want to turn this into a Christmas Dressing? I’d add a can of diced and chopped water chestnuts ( drain the liquid from the can!). Enjoy this dressing with your roast turkey, mashed potatoes, and and collard greens.
Check out the video tutorial.

Looks good!! i’ve never heard of cooking dressing w/out using cream of chicken!!
Hi Elena! I actually have another recipes for ” stuffing” and I used cream of chicken. I like both, but this one is my favorite. The chicken broth and sage are a perfect match for this dressing.
How much cornbread did you use? I need enough dressing for 12 people. Should I double this recipe?
You will need a 9X13 pan of cornbread.
This is my 1st yr cooking Thanksgiving Dinner and I will be using this recipe. I wanted to know what is the difference between stuffing and dressing? Is one moister than the other or have more ingredient?
Good afternoon Brittany,
The difference between dressing and stuffing has little to do with the ingredients. Stuffing is stuffed inside the cavity of the bird( chicken, turkey). Dressing is served on the side. Just remember stuffing for stuffed, dressing on the side 🙂 . I hope this helps. Please let me know how your dinner turns out. I’M EXCITED FOR YOU! XOXOX
I am all the way over in Kenya. Second year here for Thanksgiving. Your recipe is a life saver. Just took it out the oven. Doesn’t look as good as your’s but, still better than anything I’ll ever made before. Thank you for sharing these great recipes with the world! Literally! Can’t wait to dig in.
Happy Thanksgiving 🙂
Asante Sana – (thank you very much!)

Hi Rosie,
Just curious, the video says bake for 40min but the recipie on here says 25min
I recently changed it to 25 minutes. This makes the dressing more moist.
HEY ROSIE WHAT ARE YOU COOKING FOR CHRISTMAS
I’m making a ham, a prime rib, potato salad, pineapple upside down cake, yams, greens, and mac and cheese. :-O~

Rosie I would like to try this recipe… Question does can I place this in a 13\9 pan because the one u used on the video looked as if it was 8/8
Ok so I just made this as a trial thanksgiving meal and I followed the recipe…. or so I thought, after everything was mixed up,it looked and smelled like dressing so I proudly put it in the oven, took it out ever so happily. This is when I saw the ten crackers I had set aside!!.I couldn’t believe I for to add the crackers!lol-See this is why I do trial meals because my mind is bound to forget something trying to remember EVERYTHING .Its so weird though because even without the crackers,it was so good but I recommend following this recipe to the T!,crackers&all. Thanks again Rosie for the lovely recipes, with steps!:)
LOL! You’re welcome! I applaud you for trying the recipes BEFORE Thanksgiving!! You’re awesome! XOXO

No problem. I have another dressing recipe that has gizzards, and more turkey in it. It’s under “down home dressing”
Hi,
I am unable to find the recipe? Please help?
Sorry. It’s being revised.
Girl please I’m about to make me some dressing now
Thanks Rosie for this old fashion dressing recipe. My mom used make best dressing. Now that she is in heaven. Iam making the dressing. Instead of saltines I used package of pettridge farm stuffing. I added turkey neck
Fom turkey. It was great. Even my husband was like it was as good mom dressing.
Hi Veronica! Glad that you liked my recipe! XOXO
Do I cook onions and celery first or just add to recipe?
Yes. Try cooking the vegetables first.
Rosie when do I add the ten saltines is it when I add the loft of cornbread? Do I cook dice onions and celery before adding to pan.
Yes, add then when you add in the cornbread.
Hey Rosie, Im planning on using ur dressing for Thanksgiving. I see u suggest jiffy mix to kill time. My question is which one u prefer the most using jiffy or ur sweet cornbread recipe?
I prefer my homemade sweet cornbread over jiffy, if time permits.
What’s your cornbread recipe?
I have several cornbread recipes. Please use the search tool, and type in cornbread 🙂
Hello I love your recipes and have made quite a few. For thanksgiving this year was my 1st time making dressing but i used this recipe and it was a HIT!! errvyone was like “Who made the dressing” it was delicious
thanks for everything
This sounds exactly what I need for moist dressing. Thank you bunches!!!
What is considered a loaf of cornbread? Cup wise.
6-8 cups
Love this! Mom’s recipe unfortunately died with her. I knew some of the ingredients . I only had to use sweet cornbread and add a couple of diced boiled eggs to yours and Wala your recipe became hers. Will be looking at other recipes from you! Thanks!
Like what I see, will try….just looking for now. thank you!
Hapoy Thanksgiving week Rosie. Your recipes are the same I grew up with my grandmother way out in the Arkansas country. Thank you for blessing us with these wonderful memories of home. God Bless during the holidays and the New Year!!
Aweee. Thanks Nancy! Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much I tried your cornbread dressing because it was the closest to how my mother used to make hers the only thing I remember was that she would chopped green bell pepper in her dressing. It brought me to tears, because my mother has been battling dementia for 4 years and all those wonderful recipes she would make for the holiday are lost within her mind.
I got a few from her, but I never got her cornbread dressing. Thank you again for giving me my mother cornbread dressing recipe.
I’m making it again this year for our family Thanksgiving. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Awee. Veronica! This comment really touched my heart! Thank YOU for trying my recipe darlin’!
Awesome Thank You ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love this dish i’ll be doing it from now own
Thanks so much. I had forgotten what I put in the dressing. Your recipe sounds like mine. A quick and easy one.
I didn’t have the recipe for Hoovers cornbread but I have high hopes that it turns out well..
I can’t wait to try your Old Fashion Cornbread Dressing for Thanksgiving. It looks delicious!
I WANT TO MAKE ENOUGH FOR 12 WHAT WOULD THE INGREDIENTS CALL FOR NOW?
Make 2 batches just to be on the safe side.
Recipe looks good, almost the same ingredients as my grandmother. A few things she didn’t add, such as parsley and garlic saltine crackers. Thanks for pointing the cornbread dressing recipe.
Love this recipe, it turned out delicious
glad I checked out your southern cornbread dressing. I always used my Mom’s recipe which was never written down so I learned a few things from your recipe!! Thank you for posting and I will be added a couple of your ingredients to mine…
