Ingredients

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine the salt and ground black pepper, and mix well.
  • Season each sides of the cubed steaks with half of the salt and pepper mix.
  • Next add one egg, and a 1/2 cup of buttermilk into a dish, and whisk them together.
  • In a separate dish add in : 1 cup all purpose flour, remaining salt and pepper, and 1 tsp cayenne pepper. Whisk the ingredients together and make sure that they are well combined.
  • Coat the cubed steaks with the egg and buttermilk mixture, then coat them with the seasoned flour.
  • Shake off any excess Flour, and reserve the leftover flour.
  • Pour 1 1/2 cup oil into a frying pan. Place the pan over medium heat.
  • Once the oil is nice and hot, add in the steaks. Be sure to not over crowd the pan.
  • Cook each steak for about 10 minutes.
  • Once you remove the steaks from the pan, place them on a paper towel lined place to get rid of the excess oil. (reserve 3 tbsp of the oil)
  • Add 1 tbsp butter, and 3 tbsp of vegetable oil (I use the left over oil from which I used to fry the steaks) into a pan. Place the pan over medium heat.
  • Once the oil and butter is melted and hot, sprinkle in about 2 tbsp of the seasoned flour that we reserved.
  • Stir the flour in with the oil and butter, and then pour in 1 cup of whole milk.
  • Stir until everything is nice and smooth, and let the gravy cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
  • Serve the steaks either with gravy on the side OR poured on top.
