Easy pork neck bones & potatoes made in the Crock Pot with quick brown gravy!

Hey y’all! I know it’s been a minute (I’m working behind the scene to bring something to life for y’all!), but I’m back with this quick and easy soulful recipe. In this post I’m going to show you how to make slow cooker neck bones & potatoes. That’s right folks, It’s a slow cooker recipe!

Tender neck bones slow cooked with potatoes and gravy.

These pork neck bones and potatoes are smothered in gravy and onions, and pair well with your favorite vegetable, and a slice of buttery southern cornbread.

Slow Cooker Neck Bones & Potatoes

This hearty recipe is the perfect slow cooker dinner for a busy night! Tender fall-off-the-bone meat and potatoes that you can pair with greens, cornbread – you name it!

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs fresh pork neck bones NOT smoked
  • 1 1/2 large yellow onion sliced
  • 2 packets brown gravy mix
  • 3 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp coarse black pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 3 cups vegetable broth
  • 5 medium russet potatoes peeled, and sliced

Instructions

  • Make sure that you clean the neck bones before anything else ( don’t skip out on this step!)
  • Now toss all of the neck bones into the slow cooker.
  • Sprinkle in the seasoning salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onions powder.
  • Now sprinkle in the gravy packets, and toss in those sliced onions.
  • Pour in the vegetable broth.
  • Toss in the potatoes, then top the slow cooker with the lid.
  • Let cook for 6 hours on high.
  • Serve and enjoy with your favorite vegetable.

        Thanks for posting. Came across these at a volume butcher shop, no idea what these were so here I am using your recipe and it’s very yummy 🙂 . They were under the soulfood section at the shop…along with some other things I can’t wait to try!       You can also find them. Wayfield grocery stores, Farmers Markets, Butcher Shops in a So call Black Neighborhood. I use Beef Neckbones and Medium- Large Turkey Neckbones. Green beans, lima beans. Or Pinto beans are good in the Neckbone recipe.

      OMG!!! Where is the cookbook? I honestly need your book in my life. My husband is from Springhill, La and loves good southern food. I have cooked neck bones on several occasions. Well I came across your recipe and made the dish yesterday for memorial day. My husband ate two big plates of neck bones. Here’s the kicker he told me this was the best neck bones I had ever cooked. I’m so grateful to you and can’t wait to try more of your dishes. I truly don’t like to cook but now I’m looking forward to cooking more dishes in my slow cooker.       Neck bones are sometimes found in the section where they keep seasoning meat such as pig tails, hog joules, salt pork that kind of stuff. Smoked and non smoked are usually together and once you see them you will definitely see a difference. Some are with reg meats. We have them as a pick 5 where you get 5 packs for $20.     I remember eating neckbones and potatoes as a kid and they were delicious. However, since those days and the longer eat pork is there a substitute meat that would work just as well.

    My family and I love neckbones we eat them at least twice a month. Today is Mother’s Day we had our normal cookout but I decided to make this dish it was a hit.     I made tonight mostly as written. Used short ribs instead of neck bones. Beef broth for the vegetable broth and a tad of worchesterchire sauce. All ingredients wouldn’t fit in my crockpot so I used the stove and a heavy pot. The Husband loved it and said “this is a keeper don’t change a thing”. Thanks, Rosie!

    I have never had neck bones before or thought about cooking them. Came across your site while in the grocery store and decided to give it a try. I followed your instructions and let me tell you…the BOMB!! Delicious!! I also decided to make white rice and green beans along with some cornbread. My husband text me and said dinner was absolutely wonderful. I recently got married. I haven’t been cooking much because I am so busy. Often, I find myself cooking the same ole stuff and I only feel excited about cooking on the holidays. It’s nice to find a site with such variety and recipes that are not too difficult to make. Your recipes are realistic for the average everyday working woman who doesn’t have time to slave in the kitchen but wants to cook a great meal. Im excited to try all of your recipes.     Rosie this is the first recipe of yours that I tried and I promise you have a fan for life. My whole family is originally from MS so I’m used to southern cooking. Being that my mother lives moved out of state I have to learn how to cook these foods for myself and my family now. My little family loved this recipe. I got too much meat and had to use 2 slow cookers. Not a prob though it was still gone within 2 days. My mother did give me extra advise on cleaning the neck bones. She had me rinse them then boil them for about 5 minutes. A lot of froth floated to the top. I then rinsed again and seasoned!

    I have been making pork neck bones for years. Since I am Italian we were always taught to partially cook them, and then cook them in a wine based red sauce for about 6 hours. Your receipe was absolutely delicious, the spices and brown really enhance the flavor. I cannot wait to try your other recipes.

    I’m so glad I chose this recipe as a base for my first time cooking neck bones. I halved the recipe, put a half the onion on the bottom, then the bones, then the other half of the onion, gravy mix, half a head of cabbage cut into wedges, and a large cubed potato. I also added some sage, thyme and celery seed before adding the water. I cooked this in my rice cooker: one hour on warm, 30 minutes on steam, and another hour and a half on warm. The cabbage added a lot of moisture so at this point I removed the cabbage and potatoes and cooked the meat and gravy with the lid open on steam for another 30 minutes to thicken it up and it was fabulous in four hours. Served with a raw salad and buttermilk biscuits. Cheap and easy and delicious, and the bones weren’t nearly the hassle I was afraid they’d be, the meat did indeed fall right off. Thanks.

    I am going to try this recipe tomorrow with the boneless neck bones I got from the store yesterday. I usually cook them in red pepper vinegar but these look really good. They will go perfectly with the turnips and greens I prepped today that are waiting in the fridge to be cooked. Your bone in neckbones look so meaty! The bone in ones I usually find don’t have much meat at all. Thanks for posting! 🙂
